Paul and Belinda have been valued members of the Trakka Family for quite some time. Their journey began with a Trakkadu pop-top campervan. These remarkable individuals were with us during our 2019 excursion to Birdsville for the Big Red Bash. More recently, they transitioned to a Jabiru J2M AWD motorhome.
Take us through your latest adventure..
We left the Central Coast headed down the south coast to Bermagui then we headed over the snowy Mountains through Thredbo, out along the Murray River all the way to Wentworth. From there we headed up to Mungo National Park and up to Menindee then across to Broken Hill, then to Mutawintji National Park up to White Cliffs and back home to the Central Coast. We were away for a total of 9 weeks.
The van performed really well, we did a lot of dirt roads. Nothing too radical though and only getting bogged once on the way to Menindee. Road conditions were really wet but once we let the tyre pressures down and engaged four-wheel-drive the J2M performed really well on those slippery roads. The mid wheel base is perfect for us, makes it a bit easier going on and off the beach and there’s more than enough room for the two of us.
It’s the simplicity of how everything in the J2M operates that’s the real winner for us. Access to heater water, power are just a press of a button. It’s overall very easy to use with loads of storage.
We like to get out and about when on the road so packing up and leaving camp has to be effortless. Surfing and heading into national parks for hiking are highlights. We got to see a tonne of wildlife this last trip.
Next on our agenda for the J2M will be South Australia. Everything from the coastline and if it’s not too crazy hot, we’re going to have a crack at the Googs Track and around Lake Everard.
