Combining the 7 speed DSG transmission and 150kW bi-turbo diesel engine with 450Nm of torque, the 450 is redefining what a campervan looks and feels like to drive.
Forget moving around the vehicle to check important capacities! The Trakkadu Electronic Control Panel is an all-in-one, easy to use LCD touch screen that enables you to test with the push of a button. Check and analyse car and 12 Volt house battery levels with a volt and graphic reading, test water tank level with a percentage and graphic reading as well as check internal and external temperatures.
When plugged into 240 Volt power or driving, the panel illustrates either the automatic battery charger or alternator is activated. The technology not only allows you to operate 12 Volt system and electric water pump; on exiting and re-entering the vehicle you’re able to turn off/on all the electrics in use at the one time with the press of one button without needing to individually select appliances. Voila.
While the Volkswagen T6 Trakkadu is primed for adventure, its advantage is it drives like a passenger car and is just as happy in the suburbs as it in the bush. The 7-speed automatic Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG); standard on every Trakkadu model, offers consistent power delivery, fantastic fuel economy, seamless gear changes and greater control in how YOU want it to drive. It combines the ease of a conventional automatic transmission with the sporty feeling of a manual transmission.
The DSG has two driving modes: Normal and Sport. In the Sport mode, the DSG extends the gears further and if required, can change down sooner too. Using Tiptronic mode, the gear changes can also be executed manually. The DSG internally consists of two independent gearbox units and the clutch is always actuated completely automatically.
An essential part to any campervan is the side roll out awning but TRAKKA go the extra mile when it comes to form and function. This standard Trakkadu feature is not just mounted to the side of the vehicle, but neatly tucked into the roof when driving for both aerodynamics and sleek appearance.
As you set up camp, collect your securely stored winder from the boot and simply wind out the awning. The in-built arms lock to the body of the vehicle for awning stability and positioned so both front passenger door and sliding door can be opened even once the awning it out. Whether its raining or for shade from the hot sun, the Trakkadu awning provides plenty of protection. When its time to hit the road again, simply wind the awning back in.
Need increased boot space or more from your living area? Thanks to a sliding rear seat system, the Trakkadu provides numerous seating positions for dining, travelling or carrying bulky items. While the Trakkadu features ADR approved seating for four people, two rear passenger seat belts are built into the seat so passengers can travel anywhere along the cabin rails.
The sliding rear seat system is complete with foldaway headrests for passenger comfort, adjustable backrest and a simple to use bed mechanism. To convert to a bed, simply push one button and the headrests will drop behind the seat, and pull on a lever at the buckle to flatten the bed; this will meet the back bed platform. To switch the bed back to it's seat form, simply pull the lever a second time.
The Trakkadu 340 provides more than adequate performance for Australian travel conditions. While you mightn't expect to be going off road in this camper, it is likely that you'll experience rougher road terrain and correguation than the city bitumen we might be used to around town. This is where the benefit of front wheel drive comes in. The weight of the 2.0 L 110 kW turbo diesel engine sits over the driven (front) wheels, where power is being applied. Unlike similar sized rear wheel driven vans, the Trakkadu doesn't rely on a heavily laiden boot for traction on less than ideal road conditions, nor is it such a bother in situations where rear wheels are likely to lighten on the road.
We've found greater fuel economy than similar powered rear wheel driven vans. The Volkswagen T6.1's independent rear suspension also gives the driven better ride comfort and improved handling over these rougher conditions.
