Step back in time with the Toyota Hiace camper… Trakka’s revolutionary Travel Van. This special piece of Trakka’s history was released in January 1981. Below the brochure front page, you will able to read the first ever press release for the Travel Van, which goes into plenty of detail. Over the coming weeks we will continue to delve into a little more of the history, including the Australian Design Award in 1984.
How the Trakka Hiace pop top differed from the older style campers was the pop top roof was almost undetectable in the closed/driving position. It moved away from the old bulky and common roof that restricted where you could park. The new roof was only 35 mm higher than the original roof. Even back in 1981, our pop top roof was using gas strut assisted lift and didn’t use a four toggle roof closure system.
